I am an architect and urban planner, a writer and an aspiring artist. I love expressing myself and feel strongly that cities should have spaces for everyone–rich, poor, young, old, healthy and sick, happy or depressed–we all need to work towards making our cities liveable and lovable communities.

  1. i agree with you!!!lovely photos from istanbul…..i hear they have amazing food!

  2. Wow a quad-talented personality & all four requires creativity.Which I already see reflected in this awesome blog!

    • Thanks! Unfortunately, not many think like this. I work in the field of migration and am among a group of urbanists who promote informal areas of the city as desirable spaces that promote mixed-use, mixed-income living, are efficient etc etc. But the middle class, the elite, the political class seem to be completely in love with the idea of the global city with high-rise towers, sanitized streets, gated living….sometimes i wrong my hands in despair but mostly i carry on writing, talking, hoping mindsets will change. What do you think about starting a program that engages elite children, like yours and mine, with informal areas like slums, urban villages etc in some constructive way…?

  4. You sound like my kind of friend. And I agree with you about making our cities livable. Looking forward to reading more! Cheers, Koko

  12. Hi, came here via your comment on my blog. Great to meet you. I am doing a photography project on gender and urban public spaces. As I travel I try to do a photo documentation of the public spaces I visit like bus stops or railway station and observe how spaces are used by men women differently, what are their body language and so on. would love to discuss the work with you and also take your guidance on what we mean by urban spaces.
